Linux-Netbook.com is dedicated to small laptops running Linux based operating systems. Linux-Netbook.com is proudly powered by open source software, such as Drupal, Apache, PHP, MySQL, and jQuery. Needless to say that the server hosting this site is running Linux.
The Alpha 400 by Hong Kong-based manufacturer Bestlink is one of the cheapest maybe the cheapest netbook currently available. It offers a 7" true color display with a maximum resolution of 800x480px and is equipped with a MIPS XBurst 400 MHz 32-bit CPU, 128 MB RAM and 1 GB NAND (up to 2 GB) flash storage.
With dimensions of 8.3 x 5.6 x 1.3 inch and a weight of only 1.5 pounds the Alpha 400 is an extremely lightweight and portable netbook. It features 802.11b WI-FI, a 10/100 Mbit Ethernet interface, 3 USB ports, supports external hard drives with up to 160 GB and SD cards with up to 32 GB storage capacity. Bestlink indicates a battery life time of 2.5-3 hrs with and 3-4 hrs without WiFi.
The operating system is based on Linux kernel version 2.4. A Linux distribution is not named by the company but the MIPS (Microprocessor without Interlocked Pipeline Stages) architecture indicates that the system is probably based on Debian or Gentoo Linux.
The Alpha 400 comes pre-installed with Xiptech's Xip Word and Xip Table, which are claimed to be compatible with Microsoft Word and Excel respectively, email and chat clients, a Web browser, flash support, a video player, photo sharing software, an e-book reader, and more basic utilities.

I got the thing last night.
I got the thing last night.
Belco Alpha 400, v70. /proc/kmsg calls it a jzRISC, 335mhz. 4 days UPS
from Cali to DC. $170+UPS. Nice box. I carved the squishy-foam down into a
cozy cushy backpack slot for the thing.
I like it. 700 grams. You can turn off the wifi to save battery,
which I did, installed the get-a-vt patch, and now it can't see the wifi
hardware and I don't see how to point it to it. At least that's what I
think is going on. I don't get the wifi antenna icon anymore on the
bottom bar, which is what I clicked on to get the option to turn it off.
Hey, I didn't mean FOREVER.
HELP?
The 7" screen is only really ridiculous in the PDF viewer. I might get
some 3 diopter reading glasses or something.
Meanwhile, I don't think I'll stick with the given distro, since the core
utils are a busybox. I work Bash and ed like rented mules. Gotta be
the real deal. Or maybe I'll just update /bin piecemeal. Changing /bin/sh is
much like changing distros, however.
Any tips on what the wifi disconnect is?
