I have had this machine for 2 months and have not been able to connect to the internet wirelessly. There are pages of cryptic discussion of this problem on the net....many possible fixes that recommend tinkering with things we shouldn't have to deal with. In addition, odd things happen, frequent freezes, firefox suddenly putting itself into work offline mode..... The photo browser does not detect duplicates on importing!!!!! Buggy-ness wise this is what Mac was like 10 years ago... temperamental but people loved it. Now Mac is stable. This goes backwards in time. I wish I could return this. For the time I have spent, I would have bought the smallest white macbook available and had no stress.

Is there ANY Linux-based netbook that works? Nobody seems to be supporting whatever distro they package with the hardware. And the distro is buggy....
Having lived with Macs for 25 years, I wish Apple put out a netbook with OS X. I understand that it can be (and has been) installed in netbooks, but I just don't want to go through the aggravation.

Obviously have not been very prepared to try much.
The HP2133 works perfectly with Ubuntu 8.10 which must be the most popular linux.
I attempted to install Ubuntu
I attempted to install Ubuntu 8.04 on my HP 2133 Mini and ran into video problems. I figured it was because the Via C7-M processor had something to do with that. From what I've researched Ubuntu doesn't work well with the via processor. If there is a work around I'd give it another try.

My experience is to the contrary. I have owned and routinely used several netbooks with a variety of linux distributions (eg., EEEpc w/ Zandros; HP mini-note with Ubuntu), and have found them to all work flawlessly. The Asus EEEpc line was originally built around a light version of Zandros, which was very efficient and reliable. I recently replaced the Zandros distribution on my old Asus 701 with Eeebuntu (an ubuntu distribution that is customized for the Asus, and which works on other machines), and found that it works very well. Moreover, their "standard" distribution comes with the Awn task bar (an imitation of the Mac icon bar). I personally don't like the task bar and removed it (this is what attracts users to linux) and found that their custom distribution is perfectly suited to the old Asus. If all of this is too much trouble, stick with mac, which I call the "velvet cage."
My Mininote works perfectly
My Mininote works perfectly with Ubuntu..used 08.04/ 08.10 and now 09.04...full internet...out-of-the box...only issue is with display, cant use Compiz...no other issues so far.
