The HP Mini 1000 Mi is a compact and lightweight netbook powered by an Intel Atom N270 processor. It is equipped with 512 MB, 1GB or 2GB of RAM, an Intel GMA 950 graphics processor, integrated 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector), a Wireless-G card, an HP mini webcam, built-in stereo speakers, a 2-in-1 integrated digital media reader, 2 USB Ports, and a 3 cell lithium polymer battery that lasts up to 3 hours.
To store your data you can choose between a flash based Solid State Drive (8 or 16 GB) or a 60 GB 4200RPM PATA hard drive. The smaller model has a 8.9" diagonal SD LED BrightView widescreen display, measures 26.2 cm (10.3 in) x 16.7 cm (6.56 in) x 2.5 cm (0.99 in) and weighs only 1.02 kg (2.25 lb).
The Mini Mi runs on HP's Mobile internet (Mi) software which is a user-friendly interface built on top of Ubuntu Linux. Installed applications include a Web browser, Thunderbird for e-mail , Pidgin for instant messaging, OpenOffice.org for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations, the HP MediaStyle music and movie player, Cheese for the webcam, etc.
A Linux shell is not directly linked from the Mi user interface. To access the Linux command line hit ALT+F2 and launch xterm.
HP offers free 24 x 7 service and support in the first year after the purchase.
