HP Mini 2102

HP Mini 2102

The HP Mini 2102, which was announced at CES 2010, is one of 1st HP netbooks equipped with a processor based on Intel's Pine Trail platform, a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450. It has a mercury free 10.1" LED-backlit WSVGA display, a 92% full-sized keyboard, up to 2GB RAM, 160GB, 250 GB, or 320GB hard disk drive options, an integrated webcam, 3 USB 2.0 ports, a built-in media card reader, and 3-cell (28 WHr) or 6-cell (62 WHr) battery options.

For communication and networking the Mini 2102 offers integrated Realtek Ethernet (10/100/1000 NIC), 802.11b/g WiFi, a 2070 Bluetooth 2.1+EDR combo adapter, and optional wireless Broadband with GPS which requires a separate service contract. The netbook measures 10.55 x 7.00 x 0.90 in (268.0 x 178.0 x 22.9 mm) and weight starts at 2.5 lb (1.13 kg).
The HP Mini 2102 can be ordered with SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 pre-installed from the HP Home Store. For the SUSE Linux option you need to choose a configurable model starting at a price of US $447, significantly higher than the basic Smart Buy offer running Windows 7, which is a pity to say the least

I spoke with someone at HP

I spoke with someone at HP who confirmed that the hardware for the Win7 base model and the SUSE pre-install model are exactly the same, so you can order the basic Smart Buy netbook and install yourself, which is the route I've taken.

Certainly a comprehensible

Certainly a comprehensible decision. Still I'd like to see the pricing reflect the fact that Linux is a free operating system and Windows not, but I guess we won't see a Smart Buy option with Linux from HP any time soon.
