China-based company Skytone aims to have the final prototypes of the Skytone Alpha 680 ready by June 2009 so the first units may be shipped one or two months later. The Alpha 680 may become the first commercially available netbook that ships with the Google Android operating system. The Alpha 680 is announced to cost about 250 USD.
The Alpha 680 is equipped with an ARM11 533 MHz 32bit processor (Freescale i.MX31), 128MB DDR2 RAM expandable up to 256MB, a 1 GB Nand Flash Memory SSD (up to 4 GB), 10/100 MB Ethernet (RJ-45), built-in WiFi 802.11b/g, 2 USB 2.0 ports, SD/MMC card slot, microphone, and supports MPEG1/2/4, H.263, H.264, WMV9 media formats.
The Alpha 680 has a 7" TFT LCD true color convertible touchscreen display with a maximum resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (WVGA), an 80 Key standard keyboard, a capacitive TouchPad, dual game keys, and a pen interface.
