This short video, filmed at the Hong Kong Computer & Communications Festival 2011, shows some of the software features the Asus Eee PC X101 running a custom built of MeeGo offers. It supports social networking services like Twitter and Facebook, Adobe Air applications (which is a bit creepy), and more important for the Chinese market all mainstream Chinese input methods.
Besides the Asus Eee PC X101 also the Lenovo Ideapad S100 was showcased at the recent Computex running the MeeGo operating system. The long awaited Ideapad S100 model is equipped with a low-cost Intel Atom N435 processor and sports a 10.1" screen.
There has been continued speculation about ASUS considering a Linux based operating system again for new netbook models. Google's Chrome and Android systems where the hottest candidates I guess, but an underdog won the race, the Asus Eee PC X101 netbook runs MeeGo.
Soon after the recent announcement of Samsung and Acer Chromebooks being released next month the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook was showcased at last week's final event at Google's developer conference Google I/O in San Francisco.
At the recent Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona the folks over at Netbook News spotted this 10.1" netbook by Russian PC maker DNS. The thin and lightweight (2.4 lbs) device is powered by a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom N550 dual core processor and Intel GMA 3150 graphics processor and is equipped with 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard disk drive, and a 3 cell 24Whr battery.
