Today I've seen several articles reporting on market research by Gartner that predicts a 27% increase of Chromebooks sales in 2015 compared to last year. This is certainly not bad, but I wouldn't say Chromebooks are killing it this year.
When you look at where Chromebooks are sold you see that North America has by far the biggest sales share with 84%. Lack of brand awareness of Chromebooks outside the U.S. and connectivity in emerging markets are mentioned by Gartner as reasons for this imbalance.
Moreover, the bulk of Chromebooks was sold in the education segment in 2014, it makes up 60% in the U.S., 69% in Asia/Pacific (APAC) and 72% in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
There is a lot of room upwards in the business and consumer segments and outside of North America. In addition to the issues mentioned by Gartner lack of availability is certainly a problem too.
I often see people in communities like Reddit and Google+ complain that they can't buy a certain Chromebook model in their country. I feel that there is quite some demand and vendors might miss out here. What do you think?
