The Gluglug Libreboot X200 is a lightweight, durable and freedom-friendly laptop with a 12.1" screen powered by a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor. It is a modified Lenovo ThinkPad X200 with the Libreboot firmware and Trisquel 7.0 LTS (Belenos) pre-installed, one of the few FSF-endorsed Linux distributions out there.

The Libreboot X200 is available in different hardware configurations. The most basic model comes with 2GB RAM and a 160GB hard disk-drive. It costs £358 as of Jan 30, 2015. You can upgrade the RAM up to 8GB and the storage to 1TB HHD or 120GB SSD. It does not seem to have a built-in camera or microphone.

With the combination of Libreboot and Trisquel you can study, modify, and redistribute every piece of software contained in the Libreboot X200 when delivered. Consequently the Free Software Foundation awarded Respects Your Freedom (RYF) certification to this laptop yesterday.

To prevent potential misconceptions, you can install proprietary software on a Libreboot X200, you own the machine once you bought it. Moreover, it is a common expectation, that a laptop running a free operating system must be cheaper than one that comes with Windows or Mac OS. Keep in mind though, that a device like the Libreboot X200 is a niche product, with a small target audience. If you buy a device like this, you support a project that aims to spread free and open software.
