According to the Chinese computer company Lemote the YeeLoong 8089 is the world's 1st laptop that exclusively contains free software. The 8.9" screen netbook, assembled by Taiwan-based manufacturer Quanta, is powered by a MIPS compatible energy-efficient 800MHz Loongson 2F CPU. It is equipped with up to 1GB RAM, and with either 2GB or 8GB SSD or a 160GB hard disk drive.
The YeeLoong 8089 comes preloaded with Debian GNU/Linux, that has supported the MIPS architecture as of version 3.0, and the Lemote Education suite. Other free operating systems supported include Mandriva, Sunwah, Slackware, and Gentoo.
A hacker friendly laptop containing only free software must be the perfect device for, you guessed it, Richard Stallman, who is using it despite some inconveniences.
