Android-x86 is an open source project with the goal to port Android to the x86 platform, so you can run Android on your laptop or PC. You can see results of these efforts in the above video demonstrating Android 3.2 Honeycomb on an ASUS Eee PC 1000HE netbook.
If you want to try Android on your own hardware, follow the Android-x86 installation instructions. The process involves downloading the Android image, burning it to a CD or creating a bootable USB stick, and finally booting the operating system from the corresponding media.
Have fun trying out Android on different devices and provide the developers with feedback.
