Sascha reports from Freescale headquarters in Taipei, taking a first look at the Pegatron netbook, a very thin and light laptop with an estimated weight of 800 grams (1.76 lbs).
The build quality makes a very good impression and the comparably large keyboard utilizes the available space efficiently. The Pegatron netbook is powered by Freescale's i.MX515 processor which runs at 800MHz. It comes with 4 GB SSD, 2 x USB 2.0, microphone and headphone jacks, VGA out, and a webcam.
There are two units shown in the video one running Xandros Linux, which is also used on the Linux based ASUS Eee PCs, and one with a software based on the Movial IXS Internet Experience Suite, which is a toolkit for creating user interfaces for Linux based mobile devices.
As the hardware setup is similar to the Wistron N900z Smartbook introduced earlier, we may expect about 8 hours of battery life and a price of less than US$200.
