Jolicloud, a new Ubuntu Linux based Internet operating system for netbooks now is officially in business. Jolicloud is described as an operating system that provides a beautiful interface, an application directory and a set of social features that make it easy and fun to use.
As to what we can see in Sascha's video demonstrating what he refers to as a social OS on his joliclouded Samsung NC 10 the part about the beautiful interface is definitely true.
The cloud part in the OS' name is well deserved too, as many of the featured applications like Gmail, Google Reader, Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, and Netvibes run in the cloud.
Similar to HP's Mobile Internet and the recently released Moblin V2.0 the boundaries between operating system and Web application are blurred in Jolicloud.
To get more impressions of the Jolicloud OS take a look at the screenshot gallery on flickr. To try out Jolicloud yourself you still need to register to receive an invitation for alpha-testing the system.
From their initial list of compatible devices we see that Jolicloud supports a variety of currently available netbooks including the HP Mini 1000, Acer Aspire One, and various flavors of the Eee PC series.
