At last week's JavaOne conference held in San Francisco Oracle CEO Larry Ellison talked about the future of Java in this keynote Q&A together with Scott McNealy, Chairman of Sun Microsystems.
Ellison does not expect a lot of changes in terms of inventing, expanding, and opening up Java and holds out the prospect of expanded investments and a lot of enthusiasm coming from Oracle.
Ellison also talks about mobile phones and netbooks based on Goolge Android and sees no reason why such devices should not come from Sun/Oracle. He announced to the Java developers and users attending that:
You'll see us get very aggressive with Java, and developing Java apps for things like telephones and netbooks...There will be computers and devices fundamentally based on Java and JavaFX.
Not too bad a prospect for tha Java platform considering that all Oracle products that sit on top of the database are Java based (see video below). It shouldn't be too bad for consumers either, at least for those who not only want to choose their hardware components but also the software running on their netbooks and smartphones.
