Acer decided to introduce a larger device with a 15.6" screen, because almost 70% of the laptops sold in the US are that size. Sounds like a no-brainer to go for this market share with Chromebooks as well.
There will be models with different hardware configurations so customers can choose between:
Unsurprisingly, the additional size allows the Acer Chromebook 15 to come with the biggest touchpad of all Chromebooks so far and relatively big speakers on top of the bottom casing.
While still being light with 4.8 lbs the Acer Chromebook 15 is more attractive as a (secondary) home computer than for mobile use. Prices will start at $249, but no information yet on when they will be available.
