Ubuntu Desktop Coming to Android Devices

Canonical has been working on bringing Android together with the Ubuntu desktop to create the killer app for multi-core phones in 2012 with both systems sharing the same kernel and running at the same time accessing data and applications.

The idea is when a smartphone is connected to monitor, keyboard and mouse via a dock the Ubuntu desktop will be displayed on the external monitor and Ubuntu will run on one processor core while the other core runs the device's Android applications.

Obviously you will need a dual core phone to run Ubuntu for Android and your phone has to meet other hardware requirements, such as 2 GB of storage for the Ubuntu OS disk image, HDMI video out, USB host mode and at least 512 MB RAM.

In the video above Chris Pirillo states that this is a very interesting move that can make Android a bit more usable, it also contains some reactions from the Lockergnome user community.

I agree that it's a promising idea which depends a lot on the final implementation. What are your initial thoughts on Ubuntu for Android?
