Today mobile computing expert and Web entrepreneur Sascha Pallenberg shared his netbook market trend predictions for 2010 in this video. Sascha predicts that 2010 will be the year for Linux on netbooks, he especially sees Moblin, Jolicloud and later in 2010 Chrome OS as operating systems with high potential.
Moreover, Sascha assumes that 2010 will be the year of Android with 50 to 70 devices running the operating system, that was originally targeted at smartphones but already made its way to netbooks this year, for example on the dual OS Acer Aspire One and on several other devices including smartbooks and tablets.
Part of his reasoning that more netbooks and other mobile devices will ship with Linux based systems are the limitations of Windows 7 starter edition, including the lack of personalization features, missing multi-monitor support, no DVD playback, no remote media streaming, and no ability to run Windows XP applications.
I would add that distros like Moblin, Jolicloud, and very likely Chrome OS are a great leap in usability and will have a significant impact on future operating system user interfaces and system architectures. So what do you think, will Linux gain back market share in 2010 and will Linux have a significant share in markets like North America and Western Europe?
Apart from operating systems Sascha talks about the future of MIDs, netvertibles, the Apple tablet, that will stop being a rumor, lower netbook prices, and Intel's pine trail platform, which will be ubiquitous next year. So make sure to share your thoughts on Sascha's predictions in the Netbook News post too.
