Linux-Netbook.com is dedicated to small laptops running Linux based operating systems like Android, Chrome OS, Joli OS, Linux Mint, MeeGo, and Ubuntu. We encourage and support using free and open source software.
We saw a preview of MeeGo for netbooks last month at the IDF 2010 and yesterday MeeGo v1.0 was released to the public.
The 1st stable release of the Maemo/Moblin successor provides developers with a solid core software platform based on Linux kernel 2.6.33 to create applications for the Netbook User Experience project. Current features include:
The MeeGo project aims at a 6-month releases cycle, so v1.1 should be out in October with support for touch-based devices, like handsets, tablets, and in-vehicle infotainment systems.
Brad of Liliputing created the above video introducing MeeGo on an MSI Wind U135 netbook. After his 1st test drive he's not ready to fully switch to MeeGo but proposes it as option on a dual-boot system for quick access to the Web. He states that MeeGo feels much more polished and snappier than the last version of Moblin he tested.
Depending on your needs MeeGo may well be your next netbook operating system of choice. So give it a try and check out the MeeGo for netbooks page for information on supported hardware, installation instructions, screenshoots, and download links.
